God and the Super Bowl

Hey people , did you watch the game? I did and the underdog won!!!! Go Saints.. The New Orleans Saints were the sentimental choice for me. After Katrina my heart goes out to the people of the region.

While watching the game a question ocurred to me, and truthfully this was not the first time I thought about this, how does God view sports? Does our LORD have a favorite team, was Jesus in heaven today saying GO SAINTS!!!!
I think NOT:

Ps 147:10 He delights not in the strength of the horse, nor does He take pleasure in the legs of a man

This verse addresses the topic of athletics, no matter how strong the horse or how fast the man God finds
no pleasure in either of these things. But we  have great adoration and admiration for the athletes of our day. They are iconic figures that are worshipped through merchandising the number on their Jerseys... Through commercial advertising and more... these men and women are the focus of many... I see multitudes of people sporting their favorite players jersey but very few advertising on their person the name of Jesus..

Is this right or is it Idolatry?

1 Cor 10:14 Therefore, my dearly beloved, shun (keep clear away from, avoid by flight if need be) any sort of idolatry (of loving or venerating anything more than God).

How do we know if we love something more than anything else.. Oh, it is sooooooo simple . Given the chance....We do what we love to do, we spend money on what we love to do, we spend time with what we love to do!!! Your love for anything is defined by what you do... or by what you want to do most.

Using the aforementioned statement... can you say that based on your desires you are not an idolater?
Excuse me just wanted to provoke a little self examination people..

Now since the LORD does not pleasure HIMSELF with the legs of a man or the strenght of a horse.. what
exactly does GOD enjoy?

Ps 147:11 The Lord takes pleasure in those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy and loving-kindness

If this scripture from the error free Word of GOD as written in the Holy Bible, describes your behavior , then rejoice..God takes pleasure in YOU!!! Yes not even Michael Jordan can tale your place.

Go after GOD as you would your hometeam, with passion and zeal!!!! or would you rather be an idolater????

Matt 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize--a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion].

Amen ( So Be It)--  Paraphrasing , It is ....what it is !!!!!!

Sincerely Yours

Ormond

definition for contentment : happiness with one's situation in life

1 Tim 6:7 For we brought nothing into the world, and obviously we cannot take anything out of the world;
1 Tim 6:8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content (satisfied )

I remember one day looking around at my situation and I realized suddenly that all my creature needs had been met by GOD.  I was not recognizing how much wealth I had or even the lack thereof.. I was experiencing as described in scripture contentment... I am satisfied...

This atitude of mine I will acknowledge is so contrary to many atitudes in our churches today .. Currently there is a rouge doctrine called the gospel of prosperity that has infiltrated  the body of Christ and has defiled many. ..

Let me make myself clear regarding this wind of doctrine.. It is false..   It is a dangerous doctrine for Christians and highly manipulative in it's presentation.  This subject however, will be a topic of another time, and I only leave you with this verse:

Gal 1:9 As we said before, so I now say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel different from or contrary to that which you received [from us], let him be accursed (anathema, devoted to destruction, doomed to eternal punishment)!

Anyone remember this song by Crystal Lewis.. Satisfied

Its right on the mark with the message of this lesson.. Here is a part of the lyric :  Or just click on the link and listen

don’t let this world trick you in to thinking

you need what its got to be happy

satisfaction comes from something
this world cannot provide... be satisfied

Luke 12:15 And He said to them, Guard yourselves and keep free from all covetousness (the immoderate desire for wealth, the greedy longing to have more); for a man's life does not consist in and is not derived from possessing overflowing abundance or that which is over and above his needs.

When the Lord says I will give you life more abundantly people He is not talking about THINGS!!!
Because the scripture says  we need nothing over and above our needs.. The greatness about the life that Jesus provides is that it frees you from sin.. This is the abundant life..

So let's stop worrying and striving after this and that because in those things you will not find satisfaction
Let me paraphase and say , take a chill pill and come to Jesus with HIM you will find rest peace and contentment.

Matt 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]

Matt 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

Matt 11:30 For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good--not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.

Herein lies your contentment people do not let this opprotunity today past you by,you can have it.

In contrast what might be the Worlds concept of contentent,  Take a look at this parable for an illustraion of this worlds idea for contentment since they do not know Jesus..

Luke 12:18 "Then he said, 'This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

Luke 12:19 'And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry."'

Our Lord's response to this atitude..

Luke 12:20 "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?'

Luke 12:21 "So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

Wow, The Lord called the man a fool.... strong stuff,

Listen people be content realize GOD has you in the palm of His hand and He will never ever let you go.. and do not let the striving after things be your master...

Hebrews 13:5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” .

You have a much much higher purpose and calling. so don't blow it trying to get a BMW..because when you get one you will say to yourself, what was all the hoopla about..?? The empty now what feeling will set in

Matt 6:24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. ..

Sincerely Yours

Forget about the past

Are you constantly reminding yourself of past failures and past sins, We all have a regretful past to some measure. Our regrets may include a lost love, a missed opportunity perhaps you did something morally wrong and you are ashamed and refuse to forgive yourself. Is there someone in your past that you have not forgiven? These things hinder our progress in life.

Our past may have indeed taught us some hard lessons but once learned can we then move on in life. Do not let your past tell you what you can and can not do and neither let the past tell you who you are and who you are not. What occured years ago will not frustrate our future. Today be free from your past and embrace today and everyday ahead of us.

Forget about the past

Phil 3:13 I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead

A concerted effort to forget about past disappointments will launch you forward into what the Lord has  ready and prepared for you.

Ex 23:20 Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep and guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.

Forget about the past

Luke 9:62 Jesus said to him, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back [to the things behind] is fit for the kingdom of God.

The Lord has removed the stains of our past  He has literally made them  vanish, and your past only stays alive in your mind.. This is what Jesus says about YOU.

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!

FORGET ABOUT THE PAST AND HAVE FAITH IN GOD

Eph 3:20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]--

Eph 3:21 To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it).
